Abstract |
Parental behaviour has been conventionally recognized as being sparsely distributed among lepidosaurians (lizards, snakes, amphisbaenians and tuatara) and testudinians. This review surveys the 19 categories of parental behaviour reported for testudinians and lepidosaurians, and provides an extensive bibliography of more than 1400 references indexed by specific categories of behaviour and well-researched tables organize the literature on useful topics for the species covered. It is an expanded revision of a previously published bibliography of the author (1990), augmented with personal communications from colleagues. Compiled by an expert in the field of reptilian ecology and physiology, the book serves as an invaluable resource to herpetologists, herpetoculturists, zoologists and students of animal behaviour. The author hopes that this compilation will stimulate interest in this field of study, which until now, has been much neglected in these taxa.
