Abstract |
Testudinidae ln this work herpesviruses of tortoises (Testudo spec.) were isolated the first time. In this case three herpesviruses were found in three tortoises, 2245/92 Testudo hermanni, 2246/92 Testudo hermanni. 1432/94 Agryonemys horsfieldii. All three isolates were found in tortoises with the stomatitis-rhinitispneumonia-complex "mouthrot".A bacteriological and parasitological genesis of this disease can be excluded, it seems to be that the isolates are the causative agents of this disease. All three herpesviruses show a significant preference in their cellspecies-specifity (turtle heartcells) and in their temperature-specifity (28°C). The three herpesviruses show no antigenentic relationship to avian herpesviruses. The isolates can be diveded in two serogroups. One group is built by 2245/92 and 2246/92 the second group is built by 1432/94. The herpesviruses 2245/92and 2246/92 can be further more differentiated by their physico-chemical and cell-speciesspecific behaviour.
