Abstract |
A survey of Trachemys scripta nests in the north of Alajuela Province, Costa Rica, between March and May 1990 showed that fire ants (Solenopsis molesta) were active above and around some of the nests. The examination of 10 of these turtle nests revealed that the eggs had been totally destroyed by the ants in 9 and partly destroyed (11 of 28 eggs) in the 10th.
