Abstract
Testudinidae The project “Practical Activities for Conservation of Testudo graeca in Russia” was carried out in the Russian part of the Caucasus from July 2006 to the end of 2007 (18 months). The project aimed at the conservation of intra-specific diversity of Mediterranean tortoise (Testudo graeca) in the Russian part of its range. The project area covered the Caucasus section of the Black Sea coast from Anapa to Sokhumi and Daghestan. Objectives involved evaluation of numbers and distribution of the Mediterranean tortoise and public outreach campaigns among local communities to ensure tortoise conservation within its range in Russia.
