Abstract |
Testudinidae Here I describe my method of propagating various species, subspecies and local populations of European tortoises of known origin, such as Testudo hermanni boettgeri, T. h. hermanni and T. marginata. This method is now practiced for several years and has been developed through my own experience and by incorporating various information from others. After some short descriptions of the outdoor enclosures and of the breeding groups, the main focus is to explain my incubation conditions such as substrate, incubators, also referring to the observed incubation periods for the different breeding groups. Finally the feeding and raising of the hatchlings in separated pens is outlined.
