| Abstract |

This project provides an overview about the current situation in Catalonia of Mediterranean tortoises (Testudo hermanni hermanni) , including a more exhaustive study of Garraf Park. This subspecies, which according to the fossil record is present in Catalonia since the Neolithic age, is found, nowadays, in places like Serra de Montsant, Albera, the Ebro Delta and the Garraf Park, optimal habitats for its development. In Garraf case, from the results obtained, it should be noted the high degree of ignorance that park visitors have about Mediterranean tortoise, and this is why it is required to carry out an environmental education program, also to reduce the number of stolen specimens, which is estimated to be 4 per year. Other factors such as fires or depredations are also important issues in its population decline.
