Abstract
Hematologic investigations have been used successfully to diagnose disease and assess the physiological status of chelonians. Here, the microstructure, ultrastructure, development, and function of chelonian blood cells are summarized, and factors that affect hematologic results are reviewed. The limited body of chelonian hematology research is discussed, and recommendations for future work are provided.
