Abstract
Florida is very well known for its tourist attractions like theme parks, the Everglades and the Florida Keys. Beside that, the various waterways and springs are also worth a visit. In August 2009, the Alexander Springs state park near Orlando, FL was visited. There, 6 different species of aquatic turtles were observed: Sternotherus odoratus, Sternotherus minor minor, Chelydra serpentina osceola, Pseudemys peninsularis, Pseudemys nelsoni and Trachemys scripta. A short overview of life history of Central Florida populations of these species is given with additional personal observations. Hints and tricks for optimal turtle observations in spring areas are also provided.
