Abstract
Biological invasions are one of the causes of decreasing biodiversity on Earth. Correct terminology is a necessity for unbiased evaluation of occurance of alien species. Alien species is a taxon, introduced out of its natural range. Naturalized species is a taxon, that has adjusted with the new environment, and creates a regularly reproducing population in the new area, whose longtime survival is presumable. Naturalized taxon, that spreads and produces offsprings in areas far from the drop out place, is called invasive. To describe the impact on environment and economy it is adequate to use special categories, such as pest species, or transformers. Only national wealth and population density are statisticly demonstratable for predicting invasions through all taxonomic classes, in comparison to climate, geografical factors and the land cover. Pond slider was displaced to five continents in the second half of the 20th century. It is naturalized if not invasive in southern countries of Europe. In Czech Republic, it is casual species, which is trying to reproduce. First records of the pond slider are from 60´s of the last century. We put together a list of 190 of the pond slider in Czech Republic on basis of published data, verbal notices and unpublished data. A count of 10 or more specimens were noted 9 times. 4 attempts of reproduction were noted. In one case, eggs were succesfully arteficially incubated for the period of 95 days at the 25,5°C. Data was put into a map. The main areas of occurrence are regions with warmer climates and higher residential density.
