Trachemys scripta, Rhinoclemmys sp., Kinosternum sp, Podocnemys unifilis, Podocnemys lewyana Recent studies in other countries show that turtles used as pets in human environments can transmit Salmonella. This type of bacteria can cause serious health problems in humans and to the turtles as well. The objective of the present research was to find Salmonella enterica among turtles that are received in the Centro de Atención y Valoración del Area Metropolitana del Valle del Aburrá (CAV), these animals came after being in contact with humans, and being natural reservoirs for Salmonella could become the source of infection. Detection of Salmonella spp was carried out in feces samples using bacteriological cultures and PCR for specific DNA tests for genus and serotype. The results found in this research showed that 38/110 (34.5%) were positives for PCR for Salmonella enterica. For culture, was obtained isolates of Salmonella in 30 of 110 samples (27,2%). The typing of the 38 positives samples using multiplex PCR, identified S. Enteritidis in 26 (68.4%) samples, S. Typhimurium in 1 (2.6%), both serotypes in 4 (10.5%) samples and other serotypes in 7 (18,4%) samples. These results, show the urgency to develop strategic plans to halt the trafficking of wild animals and its commercialization to avoid their extinction and a possible zoonosis
