Abstract |
Carapacial scutes of Caretta caretta and Chelonia mydas hatchlings from natural and relocated nests were counted. The mean body measurements taken from Caretta caretta hatchlings emerging from natural nests were SCL: 41.2±1.8 mm, SCW: 31.9±2.0 mm and the mean weight of Caretta caretta hatchlings was 15.4±1.8 g. in natural nests. These values were 40.7±1.3 mm, 31.6±1.44 mm and 15.0±1.1 g. in Caretta caretta hatchlings from relocated nests. The mean body measurements taken from Chelonia mydas hatchlings from natural nests were SCL: 46.2±1.8 mm, SCW: 36.5±1.9 mm. and the mean weight of Chelonia mydas hatchlings was 19.6±1.9 g. in natural nests. These values were 45.7±2.0 mm, 36.02±2.18 mm and 19.3±2.5 g. in Chelonia mydas hatchlings from relocated nests. The value of SCL, SCW and weight of hatchlings were significantly different between the hatchlings emerging from natural and relocated nests in both species according to results of independent t-test.
