Abstract
Blood parameters are fundamental in the clinical assessment of reptiles. Obtaining accurate values in turtles is a challenge as accidental puncture of the extensive lymphatic vessel system in close proximity to the major superficial veins, may lead to haemodilution and inaccurate blood profiles. To date, there remains a paucity of quantitative information on the extent of variation in blood parameter values among samples obtained from various venipuncture sites in chelonians. In this study, blood samples were collected from the dorsal coccygeal vein, brachial vein and subcarapacial venous sinus of six captive Orlitia borneensis. Significant differences (p<0.05) were detected among the three venipuncture sites in 12 out of 32 parameters examined.
