Abstract |
Surveys were conducted for the flattened musk turtle (Sternotherus depressus) and Black Warrior waterdog (Necturus alabamensis) at a proposed coffer dam site in the Duck River by zoologist Mark Bailey of Conservation Southeast between 21 and 25 June, 2013. Survey effort was focused primarily on the musk turtle due to environmental conditions and time of year. After 100 trap-nights, no flattened musk turtles were captured, and only one common species of turtle was detected. Availability of invertebrate prey species is a likely limiting factor. Conditions at the site were found to be poor to unsuitable for both target species, and their presence is unlikely. Trachemys scripta
