Abstract |
Testudinidae Testudo hermanni A common approach used to protect wild populations of tortoises consists in localizing nests, collecting eggs, and letting them born in captivity. However, this approach requires an early localization of the nesting sites, which may not be easy since tortoises cover the nest after the deposition phase. To allow a timely and easy nest localization, in this paper we propose Tortoise@, a sensor-based system capable of localizing tortoises during the deposition phase, and transmitting their geographic coordinates to a remote control center in real time.
