Assessment Summary – May 2002 Common name Stinkpot Scientific name Sternotherus odoratus Status Threatened Reason for designation This species has disappeared over most of the southern half of its range and is vulnerable to shoreline development and increased mortality from outboard motors. The specific causes of this species’ decline are unclear, but the species does not appear to do well in conjunction with increased anthropogenic activity. Occurrence Ontario and Quebec Status history Designated Threatened in May 2002. Assessment based on a new status report.
