Blood samples were taken from 19 adult individually identifiable and healthy Emys orbicularis, which had been kept under the same conditions for years. Six blood samples were taken over one year. The following 26 parameters were examined: haemoglobin, haematocrit, red and white blood cell count, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase, alanine- aminotransferase, aspartate-aminotransferase, gamma- glutamyltransferase, lactate-dehydrogenase, creatine kinase, amylase, lipase, glucose, total protein, albumin, globulin, urea, uric acid, ammonia, creatinine, cholesterol, triglycerides and total bilirubin. 14 parameters showed a significant difference between sexes. All parameters, with the exception of 4, showed significant seasonal variation.
