Abstract
Trionyx sinensis High mortality (44%) was diagnosed on a farm of 4500 three- to 4-year-old soft-shell turtles in ChangHwa county, Taiwan in September 1997. Clinical signs included weakness and anorexia. PM examination showed an accumulation of 6-8 ml red fluid in the abdomen and brown-red exudate in the intestinal mucus membrane. Histopathology revealed fibrin and necrotic epithelial cells in intestinal mucosa. Hepatic and renal tubular cells showed degeneration. Pasteurella piscicida and Aeromonas hydrophila were isolated from affected tissues.
