Abstract
Podocnemis vogli
During field studies on the biology of the capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) (dry season in March/April 1991), the author oberserved on the farm 'Hato el Frio' (Lianos of Venezuela) that one-year-old-sideneck turtles (70-90 mm CL) of the species Podocnemis vogli L. MÜLLER, 1935 fed regularly on capybara droppings. Adult Podocnemis were never seen to do so. The author assumes that the capybara faeces are rich in bacterial proteins and hence sought by the juvenile turtles.
