Based on some remarkable differences in the morphology of the shell and of the colouration of Cuora galbinifrons BOURRET, 1939, the division of this species in two different subspecies is given: 1. The nominate subspecies, Cuora galbinifrons galbinifrons BOURRET, 1939. Distribution in North Vietnam, South China and Hainan. The terra typica designata is given with Tam-Dao, North Vietnam. The holotype of the new taxon is also the lectotype specimen of Cuora galbinifrons BOURRET, 1939, fide BOUR (in press). The locality of this specimen, MNHN Paris 1948-36, is given by BOURRET as "Bach-Ma", Central Vietnam, following the dates by the collector MERKLEN. We have not used this locality as terra typica but we are of opinion that this is a mistake by the collector, or the author, or any other collaborator. 2. Cuora galbinifrons bourreti subsp. nov. with the distribution in Central Vietnam, South-East of Laos and North-East of Cambodia has the terra typica Linh-Cam (today Ha-Tinh), Central Vietnam. The holotype specimen of the new taxon is one of the other syntype specimens of Cuora galbinifrons BOURRET, 1939 in the Paris Museum, MNHN 1948-37. The terra typica of this new taxon is conform to the original dates given by the collector Merklen and to the description of Cuora galbinifrons by Bourret.
