Abstract
A breeding population of the American diamondback terrapin, Malaclemys terrapin, occurs on the oceanic island of Bermuda; most of the population lives in two brackish lakes surrounded by mangrove vegetation. The question of whether the species reached Bermuda from the USA naturally or by deliberate or inadvertent introduction is considered.
