Abstract
Testudinidae Rhinitis in the two Mediterranean tortoises Testudo graeca and T. hermanni was investigated. Results of bacteriological examination of nasal swabs were inconclusive. Serological tests were carried out using Sendai virus and pneumonia virus of mice (PVM) antigen on serum from 34 chelonians, seven of which were showing signs of rhinitis. The incidence of significantly high titres against Sendai virus indicated that an infection with a paramyxovirus occurs in chelonians.
