Abstract |
Testudinidae Testudo hermanni Transepithelial fluxes of six amino acids (Ala, Leu, Ser, Lys, Glu, Cyclo) across the tortoise intestinal mucosa are studied. The fraction of these amino acids which is metabolized in the cells and appear in the bathing solutions is estimated. Incorporation of labelled amino acids into macromolecules is also detected. Results are suggestive that an amino acid moving from mucosa to serosa takes a different route from that moving in the opposite direction. Comparison with results obtained in mammalian intestinal mucosa is discussed.
