Abstract |
Testudinidae Investigations were made in the zoological gardens at Giza. Faecal samples were taken from 1 Greek tortoise (Testudo graeca), 2 Nile crocodile (Crocodylus nilotica), 1 Egyptian tortoise (Testudo kleinmanni) and 1 Sudanese tortoise (Geochelone sulcata). Single faecal samples from 9 attendants were also examined. Samples were stained with a modified Ziehl-Neelsen technique which showed cryptosporidia oocysts in 1 attendant and 1 Nile crocodile. Experimental infection in mice and the examination of the oocysts indicated the possible transmission of infection between man and reptiles.
