Abstract
The courtship behavior in Kinosternon subrubrum hippocrepis, K. f. flavescens, Sternotherus odoratus, and S. carinatus, was studied both in the field and in captivity. Courtship performances in the four species were very similar and were divisible into three phases: tactile; mounting and intromission; and biting and rubbing. Sexual maturity is attained between four and seven years of age in males, five to eight years in females.
