Abstract |
Emydoidea blandingii are omnivorous. Lagler (1943) found that approximately half of the food eaten by Blanding's turtles in Michigan consisted of crustaceans, almost all of which were crayfish. Insects, especially dragonfly nymphs, also make up a considerable part of the diet. Algae, cattails (Typha), duckweed (Lemna), and other plants make up most of the remaining diet. Small fish, fish eggs, amphibians, carrion, leeches, and mollusks contribute only a small portion to the diet.
