Abstract |
In the island-wide survey of the status of Cuora flavomarginata conducted in 2001-2006, this turtle is still common and widely spread in Taiwan. This turtle had been trapped at 23 sites around the island, and there were still some stable populations. Meanwhile the hunting pressure is high, several cases of smuggling for pet or food have been found in 2006. In the studies of population structures at two different areas, one in isolated secondary forest and another near urban resident area, the recruitment of young individuals is highly sensitive to the succession of vegetation. Using radio-tracking, the home range sizes of most individuals were small, and this turtle showed a seasonal activity pattern.
