Abstract |
Turtles can be used as food, medicine and pet in China. The history of turtles used for food and medicine can even trace to 6800 years ago. In 1990s, turtle consumption has increased widely, which accelerated the development of captive keeping and breeding of turtles. In recent years, turtle cultivation has developed rapidly, and it is important to some area’s economy. In order to clarify its status and scale, this presentation will be a survey report on captive keeping and breeding of turtles in Guangdong Province of China in 2004. The captive scale, pattern, and species of turtles in China will be summarized.
