Abstract
Testudo hermanni Testudinidae
The Western Hermann's tortoise (Testudo hermanni hermanni) is disappearing from its natural range. A conservation project that involves release of tortoises into the wild, has been performed in the Natural Park of the delta del Ebre (Catalogna, Spain) since 1983. From regular onsite monitoring of the reintroduced turtles, we have determined survival rates, reproduction parameters, and home ranges. The released animals seemed to have adapted very well to their new environment. Their population appears to have become self-sustaining.
