Abstract
Emys orbicularis The European pond Turtle is a zoophage related to fresh water. It is considered on the decline in its whole distribution area. Study of population present at the Logit marsh (Gironde, France) include in study and conservation multiannual program organized by the association Cistude Nature. This program has begun in 2004. This study aims to examine spatial strategy of European pond Turtle within marsh during its annual cycle, and to determine the influence of salinity. For that a follow-up by radiotracking was set up. The results show that European pond Turtle needs a diversity of habitats to carry out the various stages of its cycle (active phase, inactive phase and laying). It would be the habitats distribution which would influence spatial strategy of turtles. The salinity follow-up made it possible to show that Emys orbicularis was able to support rather strong salinities (11 g/L), nevertheless it prefers less salted water. These results show the importance to preserve fresh water in marsh. For that the re-establishment of marsh hydraulic operation is essential. It is also necessary for habitats management. Lastly, the management laying site per pasture is to be set up. Key words: European pond Turtle, Emys Orbicularis, radiotracking, laying, spatial strategy, salinity, conservatory management.
