Abstract
Carapace and plastron of a fossil emydid turtle from northern Greece are described. They belong to a Upper Miocene (Turolium) layer (Maramena, north of Seres). The similarity of the fossil with the present living Mauremys caspica is striking. So it is suggested that the fossil belongs to M. caspica. But this classification is provisional since there is no new revision of the fossil emydid turtles of Europe.
