Abstract
Testudinidae We obtained the complete mitochondrial(mt)genome of Indotestudo elongata from individuals obtained in Guangxi,China. The full sequence was acquired from 17 LD-PCR and PCR-amplified fragments. The genome is very similar to other vertebrate mitochondrial genomes, containing 16 813 base pairs and encodes 37 genes, including 13 protein-coding,2 ribosomal RNA and 22 transfer RNA genes. The base composition for the four nucleotides is 35.30%A,26.47%T,26.14%C and 12.09% G.The sequence of the rRNA genes, some of the protein-coding regions and the tRNA genes are highly homologous to those of other vertebrates. The sequence has been deposited in the GenBank database under the accession number DQ656607.In addition,we discuss the phylogenetic relationship among 16 tortoise and turtle species for which complete mitochondrial genome sequences are available in the public databases.
