Abstract |
Testudinidae On August 2011, a wild forest fire burned 83ha between the villages of Garriguella and Rabós, within Western Hermann’s tortoise (Testudo hermanni hermanni) distribution range in the Albera Natural Protected Area. The burnt area was prospected in order to find alive, injured and dead tortoises. We found 6 alive specimens and 53 deaths. Of the total of 59 tortoises we could measure and sex 56 specimens. With the collected data we obtained the density and the structure of the population of the burnt area, and we could then extrapolate this data to the unburnt areas.
