Abstract     
The effect of the temperature was analyzed during the incubation period and the dimensions of the hatchlings of Trachemys dorbigni (Dumeril & Bibron, 1835) (Testudines-Emydidae). A total of 82 eggs were weighed, distributed in two trays with vermiculite and put in two environments of incubation (Env. I and Env. II). The Env. I presented a mean of temperature from 26.9 °C ± 2.23 (Min.= 23 °C; Max.= 34 °C; n = 105), while in the Env. II, the mean was equal to 31.1 °C ± 0.82 (Min.= 28 °C; Max.= 33 °C; n = 69). The ANOVA showed significant difference between the temperature of both environments (F1,172= 232.5; p < 0.01). The eclosion success in the Env. I was 31.7%, while in the Env. II it was 53.7%. The mean of incubation time in the Env. I was 89 days, while in the Env. II it was 60 days. The length of carapace (LC) of the hatchlings from the Env. II (mean = 35.0 mm ± 1.39; Min.= 30 mm; Max.= 36.6 mm; n = 22) was bigger than the ones from the Env. I (mean = 33.8 mm ± 1.54; Min.= 30 mm; Max.= 35.9 mm; n = 13), (F1,33= 5.9; p = 0.02). The Env. II presented a shorter time of incubation and better eclosion success than the Env. I. The LC of the hatchlings in the Env. II was also bigger, differing from other works, which attributed the biggest size of the hatchlings to the longest incubation time. A possible explanation for this fact would be a significant difference in the weight of the eggs in the Env. II (mean = 14.6 mm ± 1.03; Min.= 12.5 mm; Max.= 16.6 mm; n = 22) compared to the ones in the Env. I (mean = 13.0 mm ± 2.03; Min.= 10.1 mm; Max.= 15.7 mm; n = 13) (F1,33= 9.7; p < 0.01).
