Abstract |
Testudinidae Psammobates geometricus Homopus signatus The distribution and population status of the Geometric Tortoise and the southern race of the Speckled Padloper were updated by means of accurate fine-scale mapping of remaining habitat and focused field surveys within their distribution ranges. The conservation status of both species remain of concern and this updated information has played an important part in compiling species accounts for the Atlas and Red List of the Reptiles of South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland. Future conservation management options are discussed, including the preparation of a Biodiversity Management Plan for the Geometric Tortoise and the implementation of conservation stewardship options for the protection and securing of remaining habitat and populations
