Testudinidae Predation of tortoises by mammalian carnivorous fauna in three populations with different density of spur-thighed tortoise (Testudo graeca graeca) in Southeastern Spain. Predation by mammalian carnivorous fauna is an important cause of mortality of Testudo graeca in their first years of life. We examined the excrements of mammalian fauna corresponding to three populations with different abundance of tortoise (high, medium and low abundance). The rate of predation observed varied according to the tortoise abundance of the studied population.
