Abstract |
Although enrofloxacin is a popular antimicrobial in reptiles because of its excellent activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative aerobic bacteria and its safety,1 few studies have been performed in yellow-bellied slider turtles (Trachemys scripta scripta). The aim of the present study was to evaluate the pharmacokinetics of enrofloxacin and its metabolite ciprofloxacin in 21 yellowbellied slider turtles. Enrofloxacin was injected intracoelomically at a dose of 10 mg/kg. Blood was collected at scheduled times and analyzed using a validated HPLC fluorescence method.
