Abstract |
Trachemys scripta elegans Hatchling red-eared turtles were fed a consistent initial diet for 30 days. Subsequent testing by allowing optimal choice showed a definite preference for the original diet. After feeding with another food for eight days and retesting, this preference persisted. Retesting after a second eight day regimen showed that their original food preference could not be maintained. These observations emphasize the transitory nature of food preference in turtles after exposure to alternate diets.
