Abstract |
Kinosternon subrubrum baurii A female Kinosternon subrubrum hippocrepis GRAY, 1856 kept together with a couple of K. bauri GARMAN, 1891 produced two times two eggs. One clutch contained dead embryos (due to faulty incubation conditions) obviously almost ready to hatch. The embryos and the two eggs show characteristics closer to K. bauri (dark plastral pattern, three light stripes along the carapacial keels, size) than to K. subrubrum (lighter ground colour of carapax and extremities). Natural hybrids between these two kinosternids are not known in Florida, where both forms live together. Added by: Admin Last edited by: Beate Pfau |
