Abstract |
Sexual size dimorphism in populations of Kinosternon hirtipes varies from those slightly favoring females to those strongly favoring males. Across populations, average male body size (carapace length) and average female body size are strongly correlated with basin drainage area, whereas the ratio of male to female body size is weakly correlated with basin area. The best explanation for these relationships seems to involve the interaction between sexual selection and food limitation.
