Abstract |
Of 102 turtles (7 species) collected along or near the Stones River, Rutherford County, Tennessee, USA, from July 1974 to September 1975, 67.6% were infected with helminths. 13 species, including 6 trematodes, 5 nematodes and 2 acanthocephalans, were identified. The commonest species were Neoechinorhynchus pseudemydis (in 2 of 15 Chelydra serpentina and 18 of 35 Chrysemys scripta elegans), Camallanus trispinosus (in one Chelydra serpentina, 21 Chrysemys scripta elegans, 2 of 24 Sternothaerus odoratus, 3 of 7 Trionyx spinifer and the single Graptemys geographica) and Spironoura chelydrae (in 13 Chelydra serpentina, 2 Chrysemys scripta elegans and 4 of 5 Terrapene subrubrum).
