Abstract |
Testudinidae Endemic to the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia, Indotestudo forstenii is under extreme pressure in the wild. Collection for the exotic pet trade, traditional medicine trade, and food trade in Southeastern Asia are primarily to blame. Habitat alteration and destruction are the other factors involved in their decline. I first started working with captive I. forstenii in 2003. My first successful captive breeding occurred in 2005. Success has continued every year and fecundity has increased. Established captive animals reproduce readily when their husbandry requirements are fully met. I will discuss my observations on these requirements.
