Abstract |
The distribution range and status of Chitra spp. in Thailand were investigated. Chitra chitra Nutphand, 1986 is so far known only from the Mae Klong and Chao Phraya river systems. Another species, Chitra vandijki McCord and Pritchard, 2002, was reported to occur in the Salween river system located along the Thailand-Myanmar border. At present, the status of Chitra spp. is very rare everywhere and the natural population seems to be declining. Conservation and management action in behalf of this genus is urgently needed.
