Abstract |
Giant soft- shelled turtle, Pelochelys cantorii Gray, 1864 (formerly identifies as Pelochelys bibroni ), is one of the First Grade Protective Wildlife of the State It ranged over the rivers, lakes, or reservoirs south of the Yangtze River in the past In Zhejiang Province it is now found in Oujiang River only and is nearly extinct in the wild This paper reports on surveys of the giant soft- shelled turtle along Oujiang River in Zhejiang Province The reproductive habits, especially depositing eggs on land, observed during surveys are introduced The number and current, serious status of this soft- shell ed turtle are discussed Suggestions for further protection of this turtle are p rovided
