Based on the data obtained from the investigation and interview conducted from June 1998 to July 2004,we found that the Golden-headed Box Turtle (Cuora aurocapitata) lives in cleaning streams,especially in pools under high falls.The main food of it is stream crabs,little fishes,shrimps,water insects, etc..All Golden-headed Box Turtles were captured from Qingyi River drainage in the south of Anhui Province in recent 20 years.No individuals of Golden-headed Box Turtle was captured in more than 40 sample stripes of our field investigation,which indicated that this fresh water turtle is wildly critically endangered. Up to now,there were less than 20 specimens preserved in universities and institutions.About 80 living adults were feed by 20 domestic amateurs.Artificially hatched young were less than 100.The Golden-headed Box Turtle is confronted with a serious crisis,and should be taken effective protection.
