Abstract |
Recently,a living female Yunnan box turtle, Cuora yunnanensis, was purchased from market in Kunming City, Yunnan Province, China. It was named by G. A. Boulenger (1906) based on six specimens collected from Kunming Fu (now City) and Dongchuan Fu (now City), both in Yunnan Province, China. One additional specimen (sex uncertain) was collected from Western Mountain, Kunming City and reported by Si Tchang and Ching-tai Cheng(1946). Since then, no other living individual was reported. Yunnan box turtle is an endemic species of China. The external morphology, weight, size, and length of plastral scute seams of this rare turtle were described and measured in this paper. Occurrence of living Yunnan box turtle again explains that Yunnan box turtle is still existed in the wild now. The authors would like to emphasize that it should place the conservation of this rare turtle on the agenda.
