Abstract |
Forty-nine species of turtles are known to be in captivity in China at the time of December,2006.Forty three species are Cryptodires and six Pleurodires.The total area of turtle farms is approx 53.33-100 thousand hectares,the approx stock is 2-4 millions individuals.Every year,30-40 millions hatchings are produced.Among them,Trachemys scripta elegans account for more than 10 million and Chinemys reevesii 800 thousand.Presently twenty nine species have produced F1 generation,seven species F2 and two species F3 generation.In the paper,characteristics of captive turtles bred in China were also discussed.
